The tallest recorded black person was Robert Wadlow, who measured 8 feet 11.1 inches (2.72 meters) at the time of his death in 1940. Wadlow had a condition called hyperplasia, which caused excessive growth hormone production in his body. He was born in Alton, Illinois on February 22, 1918, and by the age of eight, he was already taller than his father. Despite his incredible height, Wadlow was known for his gentle nature and intelligence. He was a popular public speaker, and toured the country promoting goodwill and acceptance of people with disabilities. His legacy remains an inspiration for many people around the world.
